A Look at the Lady Flames
Liberty opened its 2013 season with a convincing 16-3 win over the Stetson Hatters on Sunday in DeLand, Fla. The Lady Flames' defense set a new single-game program mark in the contest, after only surrendering three goals. The 13-goal margin of victory was Liberty's largest since April 23, 2011, when the Lady Flames downed Lees-McRae, 22-6.

Jen Freymond led Liberty with four goals against Stetson, while six other players scored for the Lady Flames, including Morgan Becker with three. Freshmen Kallie Britton and Alyssa Kidder, playing in their first collegiate game, tallied two goals apiece. Another freshman, Kelly Belue, paced Liberty with four assists, while sophomore Sam Struss notched three helpers.

Defensively, Jen Moyer scooped up three ground balls and collected five draw controls to lead Liberty. Moyer's performance earned her the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor. Lady Flames' goalie Kristen Masullo stopped 14 shots of 17 shots on goal, setting a new single-game program record with an .824 save percentage.

For the game, Liberty outshot the Hatters 31-21 and scooped up 17 ground balls to the home team's 12. The Lady Flames were successful on 16 of 20 clear attempts on the day, including 7 of 8 in the second half.

A Look at Navy
The Midshipmen enter Saturday's matchup with a 1-0 record on the young season, after routing Big South member Winthrop 23-4 on Sunday. The Mids jumped out to a 14-1 lead in the contest's first 20 minutes en route to their 13th consecutive win at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Aimee Gennaro scored six goals and Jasmine DePompeo, the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, contributed seven points (2 goals, 5 assists).  Overall, 11 players notched goals, as the Midshipmen improved to 6-0 all-time in home openers.

Navy has won the last three Patriot League titles. The Midshipmen posted an 18-3 (6-0 Patriot League) record in 2012 and finished the season ranked No. 19 in the final deBeer Media Poll. Navy posted winning streaks of 10 and eight games a year ago, with the eight-game streak ending in the first round of the NCAA tournament to No. 5 North Carolina.

Looking Ahead
Liberty will host its second consecutive Patriot League opponent on Feb. 24, when the Lady Flames welcome Lafayette to Lynchburg. The matchup with the Leopards is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
