Following his third top five finish of the 2012-13 season, Liberty's Niklas Lindstrom has been named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.
Lindstrom is the second Flame this spring to be named Big South Men's Golfer of the Week. Fellow junior Chase Marinell earned the same honor two weeks ago after carding a two-under par 211 (71-70-70) to secure a share of eighth place at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
This past weekend, Lindstrom paced the Flames at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, carding a one-under par 209 (69-71-69) to finished tied for fifth place.
Lindstrom bookended one-under par rounds of 69 at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla., giving the Swedish golfer seven rounds of golf this season at par or better (25 rounds at par or better for his career).
This marks the third time in Lindstrom's career he has been named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week, all of which have come this season. He was tabbed the league's top weekly golfer twice during the fall following his other top five finishes.
Lindstrom finished tied for third at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational following a three-over par 216 (72-72-72), followed by his second-career individual victory with a three-under par 213 (73-70-70) at the Rees Jones Invitational.
Lindstrom ranks second on Liberty's roster with a 73.06 stroke average this season and leads the Flames with three top five finishes. The junior currently ranks No. 116 in the country in the latest Golfweek rankings and No. 199 by Golfstat.
Lindstrom and the rest of the Flames will make their second West Coast swing of the spring next week when they travel to Westlake Village, Calif., for USC's The North Ranch Intercollegiate, Feb. 25-26.
