Uriah Bentick, Greg White and Kyle Breitmeyer
Three Liberty Flames have been selected to the VaSID All-State University Division men's soccer team.
Liberty defenders Uriah Bentick and Greg White were named to the VaSID All-State first team, while forward Kyle Breitmeyer was selected to the second team.
Voting for the team is conducted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The all-state team honors the best Division I men's soccer players in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Bentick was named to the all-state first team for the third straight year. Recently, the defender was selected in the first round of the MLS Supplemental Draft by the Philadelphia Union.
This past January, the defender was selected to his third consecutive NSCAA All-South Atlantic region team. He also was selected to the Big South All-Conference team for the third time his past year.
Bentick played a key role for the 2012 Flames, who finished the year with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 6-1-3 Big South mark. After a slow start, Liberty closed its regular season with a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3), the team's longest since an 11-game streak (8-0-3) which spanned the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Receiving a starting nod in every Liberty contest this past season, Bentick scored one goal and recorded a team-leading four assists. In addition, he helped anchor a defense which allowed 1.11 goals per game.
A two-time Liberty team captain, White earned his first selection to the all-state team. In his final season with the Flames, the defender was named to the all-conference team for the first time.
The redshirt senior played every minute during the 2012 season for the Flames. He scored three goals, while anchoring the Flames' defensive unit.
White started every game of his Flames career, earning the starting nod in 76 consecutive games. In 2009 and 2011, White was named to the Big South All-Tournament team.
Breitmeyer, Liberty's leading scorer in 2012, receives his first all-state nod. The forward was selected to his first all-conference team this past season.
The junior enjoyed his best offensive season as a Flame in 2012. Breitmeyer led Liberty with seven goals and 15 points. Five of his goals came during Big South play.
