Liberty sophomore Cori Gary was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Following a pair of individual event victories during Liberty's 119-81 victory over Marshall this past Saturday, sophomore Cori Gary was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Women's Swimmer of the Week. Gary, a native of San Antonio, Texas, receives her first Swimmer of the Week award. Earlier this season, teammate Emilie Kaufman won a pair of Swimmer of the Week honors, on Oct. 17 and Nov. 21. Against Marshall, Gary won both the 100 and 200 freestyle, posting Liberty's fastest time so far this season in both events. Additionally, she swam the second leg of the Lady Flames' 200 free relay in 23.73. The sophomore lowered her season best in the 200 free by nearly five seconds, winning in 1:54.40. Later in the meet, she swam her fastest time of the season, bettering her previous mark by more than a second in the 100 free, clocking 51.78 to take first place. Last season, Gary was named a CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major All-America honorable mention after collecting an NCAA B cut in the 50 free at the 2012 CCSA Championships. Liberty closes out the regular-season portion of its 2012-13 swimming schedule this Saturday, competing at the Davidson Duals at Davidson's Cannon Pool. The first event starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
