Junior Emilie Kaufman won the 200 individual medley on Saturday against Marshall.
Liberty posted a 119-81 swimming victory over visiting Marshall on Saturday at LaHaye Aquatic Center, a meet highlighted by two wins from sophomore Cori Gary. With the win, the Lady Flames are now 9-2 in dual-meet action heading into their last regular-season event, next Saturday's Davidson Duals. Marshall's record stands at 5-6 following the setback. Liberty won six out of nine individual events while posting the fastest times in both relays. Gary won both the 100 and 200 free, clocking Liberty's best time this season in each event. She swam 1:54.40 to take first place in the 200 free, an improvement of nearly five seconds over her previous season best. Bethany Wakeley placed second behind Gary, with a season-best 1:56.81. Liberty opened the meet by taking the top two places in the 400 medley relay, with both quartets finishing within .02 of the other. Kendall Hough, Laura Day, Wakeley and Chloe Thomas edged Liberty's second-place team, 3:55.30 to 3:55.32. Gary (51.78) led a 1-2-3 100 free showing for Liberty, as Thomas finished second in 52.97 and Brye Ravettine took third, at 53.35. Hough won the 200 back with a time of 2:10.79, and was followed in second and third by teammates Ranndi Grubbs (2:13.39) and Jennifer Garzinski (2:18.98). Ravettine touched the wall first in the 50 free, in 23.77, while Thomas' 24.28 placed second. Emilie Kaufman completed the 200 individual medley in 2:07.95, good for first place. Day followed in second place with a time of 2:12.04. Jess Reinhardt won the 200 fly in 2:08.03, coming from behind to defeat Marshall's Sarah Kay (2:10.12), while Wakeley placed third in 2:11.80. Marshall went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free, led by Kaley Gregory's 10:36.60. Gregory later won the 500 free, in 5:13.38. Kacey Preun swam 2:23.58 to gain first in the 200 breaststroke. Duff clocked a 5:16.41, good for second in the 500 free. During the 200 breaststroke, Day (2:24.84) and Kaufman (2:26.04) took second and third, respectively. Liberty swam the meet-ending 200 free relay as an exhibition, and Marshall took the final 15 points. The Lady Flames clocked the two fastest times, with the team of Ravettine, Gary, Grubbs and Rachel Nelson touching the wall first in 1:37.57. The Lady Flames will conclude their 2012-13 regular-season slate next Saturday, competing in the Davidson Duals. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. at Davidson's Cannon Pool.
