As the Flames Sports Network continues to recap the 2012 football season, FSN looks back at the Top 10 moments of the year, concluding the series today with moment No. 1.
FSN concludes its Top 10 series of the 2012 football season with the top moment of the year, which came during Liberty's final home game of the season.
Facing their fourth Top 25 opponent of the year, Liberty needed to post its first-ever victory over a Top 10 program history to keep its hopes alive for the Big South title.
No. 6/8 Stony Brook entered Williams Stadium on Nov. 10 with the hopes of wrapping up its second outright Big South title and securing the league's automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
However, Liberty had its best defensive showing of the 2012 season, leading to a thrilling 28-14 victory over the visiting Seawolves. The Flames forced a season-best five turnovers during the game (four interceptions and one forced fumble), with two Seawolves' miscues leading directly to touchdowns (Nick Sigmon 21-yard interception return for a touchdown and Jacob Hagen 44-yard fumble return for a touchdown).
The win marked the highest ranked opponent Liberty had defeated in program history and put the Flames in position to win their fifth Big South title in the last six seasons the following week at VMI.
Today's No. 1 moment in the Flames Sports Network's reflections on the 2012 season wraps the series and FSN's coverage of Liberty's first season under head coach Turner Gill.
