Flames Return Home To Host King College; LibertyFlames.com To Provide Live Updates
Fresh off a three-match sweep last weekend which included wins over Bucknell, Messiah and Wilkes, the Liberty University wrestling team returns to the Mountain for its second home match of the year when they host King College on Tuesday.
The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in the Schilling Center. LibertyFlames.com will be providing LIVE match-by-match updates with in-match scoring following the conclusion of each period.
Liberty enters the dual meet with an 11-6 record in the Flames' return season to the mats as the program was reinstated this year after a 12-year hiatus.
The match-up with the Tornados could give fans a chance to see some of Liberty's top wrestlers. Christian Smith is slated to start at 125 pounds for the Flames and enters the match-up with a 19-9 record. Smith has individually placed in two tournaments this year, including first place at the East Stroudsburg Open and the Virginia State Intercollegiates.
Tim Harner, at 141 pounds, enters the match-up having claimed victory in five-straight matches and nine out of his last 10 times to the mat. Harner leads the squad with a 29-9 record and has placed in four tournaments this year, including the Virginia State Intercollegiates where he won and was named the event's Outstanding Wrestler.
Chad Porter ranks second on the team with a 24-11 record at 165 pounds and leads Liberty's grapplers with nine wins by fall. Rounding out the match-up could be Liberty's heavyweight Patrick Walker who enters the meeting with King College with a 21-5 record, the best winning percentage on the squad.
This dual meet marks one of three home events for the Flames this year. Liberty swept three teams in a quad match on Nov. 22 and the Flames will close out their 2006-07 home slate against in-state opponent VMI on Feb. 15.
