The Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex renovations are now complete, and the facility will host its first meet, the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, April 5-6.

Renovations to the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex are now complete, as the new track surface has been laid and stripes have been painted.

The renovations, which were conducted by Beynon Sports Surfaces, included a complete rebuilding of the track surface. The Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex now features eight 48-inch lanes, two shot put sectors, two discus rings, two pole vault runways and two long jump/triple jump runways.

Additionally, the javelin runway and steeplechase pit were both moved from the north end of the facility to the south end, with the steeplechase pit now being located outside the track oval.

The Liberty men's and women's track & field teams, which have already conducted a few practices on the new track surface, are preparing for their first indoor meet of the 2012-13 season. The Liberty Kickoff will take place Friday and Saturday at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center.

Liberty will officially inaugurate the new-look Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, scheduled for April 5-6.

The facility will then play host to the 2013 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, April 18-20.
