Devon Brown was named Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time in her career.

For the second straight week, a Liberty redshirt senior has been recognized as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This time, Devon Brown took the honor.

Brown's award comes on the heels of teammate Tolu Omotola's Big South Player of the Week honor on Nov. 19. This is the third Big South Player of the Week nod of Brown's career, and her first since Feb. 2, 2010.

Brown was honored for her exceptional performance against the last two seasons' national champions, No. 24 Texas A&M and No. 3/3 Baylor. For the week, the Waynesboro, Va., native averaged 21.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg, while shooting 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the field, 50 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the foul line.

Brown led all players with 23 points last Tuesday, in a 70-55 loss at Texas A&M. She made 80 percent (8-of-10) of her field goals and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) of her free throw attempts, while grabbing four rebounds. During the game, she became the fifth player in program history and the 19th player in Big South Conference annals to score 1,500 career points.

Three days later, Brown again topped all players with 20 points against defending national champion Baylor. She also tied for game-high honors with five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and came up with two steals. Nine of Brown's points against the Bears came during a 29-11 game-ending surge for the Lady Flames.

For the season, Brown is tied for third in the Big South in scoring at 16.8 ppg. She also shares third place in field goal percentage (50.0) and sits fourth in free throw percentage (87.0).

Brown and the 2-3 Lady Flames will return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m., when they welcome UNCG (1-2) to the Vines Center. Liberty will attempt to extend its 10-game home winning streak in what will be the Lady Flames' final tuneup for their 2012-13 Big South Conference opener Saturday at Radford.
