Liberty swimming will compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational, Thursday through Sunday at Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

Liberty swimming will make its second appearance in the Christiansburg Aquatic Center this season, competing in the three-day Virginia Tech Invitational, Thursday through Saturday.

The meet will serve as an introduction to the conference championship meet format, featuring the same program of events at the 2013 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships. Preliminary events in each individual event will be contested during the morning session, with finals to be held each night.

How to Follow the Lady Flames
Fans unable to attend this week's meet can follow the action through live timing, provided by Virginia Tech. Also, live video streaming for will be available for Friday and Saturday's evening finals, for a small charge through Virginia Tech's online video webpage.

Liberty continues its stretch of meets against major conference opponents, facing the host Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC, along with the SEC's South Carolina and UConn of the BIG EAST. Commonwealth opponent William & Mary rounds out the field. Liberty, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and UConn all scored points at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Lady Flames have posted a 5-1 dual-meet record so far this season, including conference victories over Campbell, Gardner-Webb and VMI. Most recently, Liberty posted the top time in every race in downing both Boston College and Maine on Nov. 2 in Boston. Liberty went 2-1 at the Virginia Tech Sprint Classic on Oct. 20, winning five events during the meet.

Junior Emilie Kaufman has displayed impressive swimming during her first three meets as a Lady Flame. She has broken the program records in both the 100 (1:03.24) and 200 (2:19.46) breaststroke. Kaufman has won all seven individual events in which she has been entered, and has posted excellent split times in the medley relay.

Kaufman was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 17 after a standout first meet as a Lady Flame. She is the third current Lady Flame to be named CCSA Swimmer of the Week (Ravettine, 2011-12; Erin Curry 2012).

Brye Ravettine, a 2012 All-American and CCSA Swimmer of the Year, has clocked 23.56 in the 50 free and 52.42 in the 100 free so far this season. She has four individual events victories this year and has been a key contributor to the team's sprint relays.

Freshman Hannah Wakeley broke Liberty's record in 1000 free during her first collegiate meet, swimming 10:34.02 on Oct. 12 at Campbell. Fellow freshman Laura Day set a school record in the 200 breaststroke at 2:24.12 on Oct. 20, which has since been broken by Kaufman.

A total of nine Liberty swimmers have claimed at least one individual event victory this season, with four freshmen posting event wins.

At present, all of Liberty's swimming records are held by current Lady Flames' swimmers. Eight different Lady Flames currently hold at least one individual program record.

Relays have been a source of strength for the Lady Flames, especially their 200 free relay, which is 8-1 since the start of last season.

Liberty holds the top time in the CCSA in four events at present. They include:
Emilie Kaufman – 100 Breast (1:03.24); 100 Fly (56.56); 200 IM (2:05.77)
