FSN Weekly Preview: Stony Brook
The Flames will face their fourth Top 25 program of the season on Saturday when Liberty hosts No. 6/8 Stony Brook, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.
The Seawolves come into the game as defending Big South champions and winners of 11-straight Big South games dating back to the beginning of the 2011 season. This season, Stony Brook is riding a seven-game winning streak, the third-longest active FCS winning streak in the country.
Stony Brook is led by Walter Payton Award candidate Miguel Maysonet, who leads all FCS running backs with 1,651 rushing yards and ranks No. 2 in the country by averaging 165.10 rushing yards per game. The senior tailback has scored 17 rushing touchdowns, which ranks No. 2 in the country.
The series between the two programs began in 2008 when Stony Brook joined the Big South as an associate member. The series is tied 2-2, with the home team winning each meeting. In the two games played at Williams Stadium, Liberty has outscored Stony Brook 87-28 (2008 – Liberty 33, Stony Brook 0; 2010 – Liberty 54, Stony Brook 28).
Kickoff at Williams Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. The Military Appreciation game will also feature a special military emphasis halftime and a flyover by a historic B-25 bomber.
