Lady Flames Post 20th Win, 3-0 at Campbell

The Liberty volleyball team claimed at least a share of the Big South regular-season title, sweeping Campbell, 3-0 (25-19, 30-28, 26-24) on Saturday at the Pope Center.

With the win, Liberty (20-7, 10-2 Big South) earns its sixth straight 20-win season and sixth conference regular-season championship in a row. The Lady Flames have won each of their last five matches overall, while Campbell (7-22, 0-12) remains in search of its first conference win.

For the match, the Lady Flames outhit Campbell, .213-.168, posting eight blocks to the Camels' six. The hosts held a 74-67 advantage in digs on the evening, although Liberty had five players in double figures in digs.

Lillie Happel led the Lady Flames with 16 kills and added 11 digs for her 25th career double-double and sixth this season. Classmate Jade Craycraft totaled 39 assists and 10 digs, for her ninth double-double this year. Caroline Douglas scored 11 kills, while Loren Thomas had eight kills.

Kendle Rollins registered five blocks, and Gabrielle Shipe collected 15 digs. Becca Haraf and Ansley Gebben had 13 digs apiece.

Campbell's Brooke Kelley tallied a match-high 18 kills at a .326 clip. Heather Wilson dished out 38 assists, and Lauren Bewick recorded 19 digs to pace all players.

Liberty led set one from start to finish, on the way to a 25-19 victory. The Lady Flames held the lead, 21-13, following a kill from Melissa Racz which capped a 6-1 run. Campbell scored the next six points, drawing to within 21-19. Happel scored a kill to spur a 4-0 Liberty rally to the finish. Liberty hit .250 in the first set, compared to .216 for the Camels. Happel led all players with six kills in the opening frame, followed by Douglas' four kills.

The visitors built a 20-15 lead during the second frame. The Camels then went on a 9-0 rally, gaining set point at 24-20 when Kelley scored her third kill in a row. Liberty rallied to tie the score, 24-all, on a kill from Craycraft. In total, the Lady Flames fought off seven set-point tries before clinching the set, 30-28, when Happel sent down a kill.

Kelley registered 10 of Campbell's 20 kills during set two, while Happel recorded five kills for the Lady Flames.

Extended rallies for both teams produced a 20-20 tie in set three. Happel then tallied a kill, sparking a 4-1 Liberty run. Campbell answered with three straight points before a Lady Flames block and a Douglas kill sealed the set and match, 26-24.

Liberty hit .222 during the final set and Campbell hit .160. Happel totaled five kills in set three, while Kelley had six kills for the Camels.

The Lady Flames wrap up the regular season with two conference home matches, hosting UNC Asheville on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Gardner-Webb on Saturday at noon. Liberty will honor its senior volleyball players prior to Saturday's match against Gardner-Webb.
