2013 Men's Tennis Schedule
Following the completion of a very successful fall tournament schedule, the Liberty men's tennis team turns its attention to the 2013 spring slate, which has been announced by head coach Chris Johnson. Tournaments at Wake Forest and Hawaii as well as an always-challenging Big South lineup await the Flames in 2013.
Liberty will take to the road 12 times, including a pair of tournaments. The Flames' home lineup includes seven out-of-conference matchups and four Big South conference dates.
Liberty will open the season at the Wake Forest Invite on Jan. 11-13. The host Demon Deacons finished the 2012 spring season ranked No. 7 in the ITA's Carolina Region.
The Flames begin the month of February with a matchup against Bluefield State on Saturday, Feb. 2. The contest will take place at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. The following day, Liberty will welcome Averett to Lynchburg for its home opener. The contest, along with a Feb. 8 matchup with Averett, will be played at the Flames' indoor facility, the Sports Racket.
Liberty takes to the road for a pair of Commonwealth contests against Norfolk State on Feb. 16 and the Tribe of William & Mary on Feb. 17. The Tribe concluded the 2012 season with a No. 10 ranking in the ITA's Atlantic Region.
Beginning with a Feb. 22 match against Morgan State, the Flames will play four straight contests on Liberty Mountain. Liberty plays its first Big South match of the year on Feb. 26 against Longwood. The Flames play back-to-back matches against Eastern Kentucky, March 2, and Guilford, March 3, to open the month.
Liberty's first conference road tilt comes against UNC Asheville on March 8, before flying to Hawaii for a trio of matches. The Flames will go up against BYU Hawaii on March 12. Liberty will then challenge a pair of schools who finished ranked in the top 10 in their respective regions. On March 13, the Flames battle Idaho prior to a March 14 contest against the host Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii.
Liberty returns home on March 19 for a contest against Charlotte, who finished last season ranked No. 10 in the ITA's Carolina Region.
The Flames take to the road again for a pair of conference tilts, beginning on March 22 against Winthrop and finishing against Gardner-Webb on March 23.
Liberty wraps up the month of March at home, with another conference foe in Presbyterian College on March 28. The Flames conclude the quick two-game homestand with a mid-week matchup against Campbell on April 3.
On April 6, Liberty travels to face the defending Big South champions, the Radford Highlanders, who also finished the 2012 spring slate ranked No. 6 in the ITA's Atlantic Region.
The Flames return to the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts on April 7 against Coastal Carolina, followed by a battle with the James Madison Dukes on April 10.
Liberty concludes the regular season on the road at North Carolina Central on April 12.
The spring season then culminates with the Big South Men's Tennis Championships, which will take place in Rock Hill, S.C., April 18-20.
Heading into the 2013 spring season, Liberty returns four players who accounted for 44 of the team's 90 singles wins last season. Siim Tuus, who finished the 2012 season ranked No. 16 in the ITA's Atlantic Region, posted 14 victories last season to lead the team. Dillon Segur, Shea Thomas and Jorge Azuero notched 11, 10 and nine wins, respectively.
