Flames Down D-III Ranked Wilkes, 32-12, For Third-Straight Victory

The Flames won their third-straight match with a 32-12 victory over Wilkes University, who currently ranks 12th in the latest NCAA Division III polls, in the second of two matches hosted by Messiah College on Saturday. 

With the victory, the Flames raise their record to 11-6 on the year and the loss drops Wilkes to 8-6 on the season. 

Starting with the 165 pound weight class, Chad Porter gave the Flames an early lead with a 13-4 major decision victory over Andrew Rock. Wilkes answered back at 174 pounds as Justin Barowski defeated Joseph Son by fall (3:26) to take a 6-4 lead. 

Liberty answered back at 184 pounds as Chris Daggett pinned D.J. Giancola (4:42), allowing the Flames to regain control of the match, 10-6. Colin Nagy pulled Wilkes within one point, 10-9, with an 11-4 decision victory over Josh Moore, a new addition to the Flames' roster at 197 pounds. 

However, Liberty won five out of the final six weight classes to secure their 10th dual victory of the year. Patrick Walker started the run for the Flames with a major decision victory over Keith Altiery, 14-1, at the heavyweight. 

At 125 pounds, Christian Smith followed with a win by fall over Shaun Farnham (1:37) to push Liberty's lead to 20-9. Sam Walters kept things going for the Flames with a 2-1 sudden victory decision over Josh Pauling at 133 pounds. 

Tim Harner picked up Liberty's third pin of the match as he defeated Peter George by fall (4:46) at 141 pounds. Erick Smith ended the Flames' run of victories as he scored a 7-4 decision win over Aaron Kelley at 149 pounds, before Shaun Smith gave the Flames their final three points of the match with a 5-4 decision win over Andrew Franko at 157 pounds. 

The Flames return to action on Jan. 30 when they host Kings College in the Schilling Center. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
