Liberty redshirt senior David Ricksecker won the men's 8K race at Friday's Royal Cross Country Challenge, resulting in his first ECAC Division I Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolade.

After winning the men's 8K individual title at Friday's Royal Cross Country Challenge, Liberty redshirt senior David Ricksecker has been named the ECAC Division I Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Ricksecker is the second Liberty runner to be honored by the ECAC this fall. Fellow redshirt senior Jennifer Klugh was tabbed the ECAC Division I Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 18.

Ricksecker's victory in Charlotte, the first individual title of his collegiate cross country career, came in an 8K personal-best time of 24:07.6. It was the first time a Liberty men's cross country runner has won a race since Zac Edwards took home the title at the 2011 Big South Cross Country Championships.

Ricksecker was followed closely by teammates Caleb Edmonds, Ngetich Kipchirchir and Jeremie Bourget in second, third and fourth places, respectively. As a result, the Flames notched a resounding victory in the men's team standings with only 19 points. Liberty's first men's cross country meet title of the 2012 season came by 61 points over runner-up Western Carolina.

Ricksecker will now attempt to become just the 12th men's runner in program history to earn three All-Big South cross country honors during his career. In the process, he will try to lead Liberty to its unprecedented eighth consecutive Big South men's cross country team championship.

The 2012 Big South Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be contested on Oct. 27 in Rock Hill, S.C. The meet will be hosted by Winthrop at the Winthrop Coliseum and Farm. The women's 5K championship will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11:30.
