Liberty Hosts Longwood on Tuesday in Pivotal NorPac Matchup

Following its 4-0 shutout of the Radford Highlanders on Friday evening, the Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team returns to action on Tuesday against the Longwood Lancers. The NorPac conference contest is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Series Against Longwood
Longwood holds the all-time series advantage over the Lady Flames, 2-0, winning both contests in Farmville.

A Look at the Lady Flames
The Lady Flames hold the best overall record in the NorPac Eastern Division at 9-5. Liberty sits in third place with a 2-1 record in conference play. The last time out the Lady Flames blanked Radford, 4-0.

Playing its first home game under the lights on Friday, Liberty received goals from four different players en route to the victory over the Highlanders. Helen Doolittle and Sarah Gipe notched first-half goals, while Hannah Doherty and Ashlee Krulock rounded out the scoring in the second half. Natalie Barr, Doherty and Erin Dombach each recorded an assist in the contest. Mallory Cuccio earned her second shutout of the season, tallying two saves in the match. The Lady Flames outshot Radford, 15-5, and held a slight edge in penalty corners, 5-4.

Gipe's goal against the Highlanders was her team leading 10th of the season. Barr is second on the team with six goals, while a trio of Lady Flames, Doolittle, Doherty and Abbey Basom, have four goals each. Barr has four assists, which tops the squad. Doolittle, Doherty and Hannah Jones have three assists apiece.

Brooke Morley has started nine games in goal for Liberty and holds a record of 5-4. The sophomore has recorded 48 saves, while surrendering 18 goals. Cuccio has played the last five contests in goal for the Lady Flames, posting a pair of shutouts during that span. The Colorado native has notched 17 saves, while allowing four goals.

For the season, Liberty has outscored its opponents 36-22. The Lady Flames average 2.57 goals per game, while opponents are averaging 1.57 goals per game.

A Look at the Lancers
Longwood enters Tuesday's matchup with the Lady Flames holding an overall record of 4-11. The Lancers currently sit in second place in the NorPac Eastern Division with a 3-1 mark. On Sunday, Longwood went to overtime and defeated Radford, 5-4.

The Lancers raced out to a 4-1 lead over the Highlanders before Radford stormed back to tie the game on the last play of regulation to send it to overtime. Jessica Diaz scored the game winner 8:04 into the overtime frame to give Longwood the 5-4 win.

Stacey de Grandhomme and Diaz lead the team with 11 and 10 goals, respectively. Jennifer Burris paces the team with six assists.

Meg Mitchell has started 12 out of 15 contests in goal for the Lancers, surrendering 3.03 goals per game.

Longwood has been outscored 51-40 for the season. The Lancers average 2.67 goals per contest, while opponents hold an average of 3.40 goals per game.

Looking Ahead
The Lady Flames host a pair of NorPac games this weekend at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. On Friday, Liberty welcomes Appalachian State for a 7 p.m. tilt, followed by a 2 p.m. contest against Davidson on Sunday.
