Fresh off a bye week of rest, Liberty rallied to record its first win of 2012 with a 42-35 victory over Gardner-Webb, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.

The Homecoming game was played in front of 18,239 fans, the fifth largest crowd in Williams Stadium history. The Flames scored 32 of the game's last 39 points to rally for the Big South opening victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Liberty has now won its last six Big South openers and eight of 11 conference openers since the beginning of league play in 2002.

Liberty's second-half rally was aided by a surge in the offense during the final 30 minutes of play. The Flames recorded 348 of the team's 508 total offensive yards during the second half.

The Flames' offensive leader during the game was quarterback Josh Woodrum. The redshirt freshman finished the game with 373 passing yards (25-of-31), marking the 12th most passing yards in a game by a Liberty quarterback in program history.
