Niklas Lindstrom won the Rees Jones Invitational by six strokes, carding a three-under par 213.

For the second day in row, Liberty continued to dominate play at the Rees Jones Invitational, winning the event by 24 strokes and having the tournament's individual medalist in Niklas Lindstrom.

The Flames, currently ranked No. 40 in the first Golfstat rankings of the year, claimed four of the top five spots in the 63-man field en route to a six-over par 870 (284-290-296).

The next team on the leaderboard was East Carolina, who finished in a distant second place with a 30-over par 894 (298-303-293). The Pirates were followed by tournament host South Carolina, who finished three rounds at the par-72, 7,380-yard Haig Point Golf Course in third place with a 32-over par 896 (295-296-305).

Rounding out the tournament's top five was Charlotte, who finished fourth with a 42-over par 906 (306-296-304), and fellow Big South foe Winthrop, who finished fifth with a 45-over par 909 (293-301-315).

Two other Big South programs were among the dozen programs in the field. Charleston Southern finished ninth with a 72-over par 936 (315-301-320), and Presbyterian College, who finished last with a 101-over par 965 (330-315-320).

The team victory was Liberty's first of the 2012-13 and the 22nd Division I team tournament win in program history.

Lindstrom carded his second straight, sub-par round to claim his second career individual medalist honor. Last year, the junior took first place with a five-under par 139 (68-71) at the Trojan Fall Classic.

Lindstrom made the turn at one-under par, but fell back to level par with a bogey at No. 12. However, he was able to card birdies on No. 15 and No. 18 to finish the tournament with a three-under par 213 (73-70-70).

Lindstrom won the tournament by six strokes over four players, including three teammates. The only non-Liberty player to tie for second place was South Carolina's Jimmy Beck, who carded a three-over par 219 (75-74-70).

Chase Marinell (71-74-74), Ian McConnell (68-74-77) and Max McKay (72-72-75) each followed Beck and were six shots off of Lindstrom's pace.

Marinell offset three bogeys with a birdie on No. 11 to close with a two-over par 74. McConnell, who led following the first day, had three birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey during his final round to close with a five-over par 77.

McKay led all of Liberty's players with four birdies on the day, but the senior also had five bogeys and a double bogey to finish the two-day event with a three-over par 75.

Liberty's final golfer in the field was Mathieu Fenasse, who finished tied for 40th place with an 18-over par 234 (78-77-79).

Lindstrom's victory marked the 21st Division I individual medalist honors in program history and the first since Robert Karlsson finished tied for first at last year's NCAA Greensboro Regional.

The Flames will close out the fourth and final team event of their fall schedule on Oct. 13 and 14 when Liberty travels to Durham, N.C., to participate in Duke's Rod Myers Invitational.
