(Left to right): Kevin Fogg, Pat Kelly, Bryant Lewellyn and Jay Weatherington have been named team captains for the 2012 season.

At last night's team meeting, Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill named Kevin Fogg, Pat Kelly, Bryant Lewellyn and Jay Weatherington as his team captains for the 2012 season.

The four senior members of Liberty's roster will look to lead the Flames in the upcoming season, the first with Gill at the helm.

"These four players have shown dependability, leadership by example and have earned respect from their teammates," commented Gill. "They will represent our football program and university in a great way."
Fogg and Kelly are returning starters for the Flames, with both earning postseason accolades in 2011.

Fogg earned first-team All-America honors from the Sports Network, College Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation after leading the nation with a 33.5 kickoff return average and three kickoff returns for a touchdown. As a defensive back, Fogg recorded 45 tackles (33 solo, 12 assisted) and ranked second in the Big South with three interceptions.

Kelly was recognized for his efforts both on and off the field in 2011. The wide receiver finished second on the team with 40 receptions, 591 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions to earn second team all-Big South accolades. He was also a CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American after finishing his junior season with a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

Lewellyn has been a reserve member of Liberty's defensive line for the past three seasons, with four games played in 2011. However, he impressed Gill's staff during spring practice and was named a Samkon Gado award winner, given to him for being the most improved defensive player during the April workouts.

Weatherington was one of four offensive linemen to start all 11 games in 2011. He graded out at 88 percent last season with 73 knockdowns and helped the Flames finish the year ranked No. 8 in the country in scoring offense (35.91 points per game).

Liberty's four team captains and the rest of the Flames will spend the next 10 days preparing for their season opener against Wake Forest on Sept. 1. Kickoff in Winston-Salem, N.C., is set for 6:30 p.m. at BB&T Field with the game being broadcast on ESPN3.
