Just two days before the opening of classes, Liberty closed off its 2012 August training camp by hosting its first-ever Flames Fan Fest at Williams Stadium on Saturday night.

The evening event began with a one-hour scrimmage, the public's first chance to see the Flames this August since all prior practice sessions were closed.

The offense and defense took turns shining during the scrimmage. The night began with a defensive highlight when sophomore defensive back Kenny Scott intercepted a pass on the first play from scrimmage.

Throughout the rest of the evening, Liberty's first, second and third string offensive units took turns successfully moving the ball downfield and into the end zone for multiple touchdowns.

The first came when junior quarterback Brian Hudson lofted a pass to the far side of the field over a defender and into the outstretched hands of junior wide receiver Jaquan Glover for a 43-yard touchdown pass.

Later in the scrimmage, junior running back Aldreakis Allen wrapped up a lengthy drive led by redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Woodrum when Allen scored on the ground from two yards out.

Additional offensive scores came from freshman running back Kendrick Couamin and senior tight end Brandon Apon, spotlighting the on the field action that was played in front of roughly 2,000 fans.

After the scrimmage was over, Liberty's coaches and players made themselves available for photos and autographs in the Williams Stadium concourse, completing the evening's festive atmosphere.

The football team will return to Williams Stadium tomorrow afternoon for its annual Media Day event, but will not return to the practice field until Tuesday afternoon. The players will have Monday off, allowing them to focus on their academic schedule on the first day of classes.

LibertyFlames.com will be covering tomorrow's Media Day event and will have an August training camp wrap-up interview with head coach Turner Gill.
