The Liberty men's and women's cross country teams officially started practice for the 2012 season on Tuesday. Nick Pierce of the Flames Sports Network caught up with redshirt senior Jennifer Klugh and head coach Brant Tolsma to discuss the first couple practices and the outlook for the upcoming season.

Klugh headlines a Liberty women's squad which finished second at last year's Big South Cross Country Championships. She is the two-time defending Big South women's cross country individual champion and the program record holder at the 5K and 6K distances.

Meanwhile, the Liberty men's cross country team appears poised to make a strong run at its eighth consecutive Big South title. The Flames boast four of the top six returnees from the 2011 Big South Cross Country Championships, including defending conference champion Zac Edwards, who is now a redshirt senior.

Liberty will begin the 2012 campaign on Aug. 31, when the Flames and Lady Flames compete at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The women's 4K race will go off at 6 p.m., with the men's 6K to follow at 6:45.
