As the defending Big South champion Liberty volleyball team prepares for its 2012 season, LibertyFlames.com's Nick Pierce caught up with head coach Shane Pinder and senior middle blocker Loren Thomas.

The interviews discuss Liberty's recent success, along with insight into fall practice and what to look forward to during the 2012 season.

The Lady Flames have been predicted to win the Big South championship in the conference's preseason coaches poll, after posting their fifth straight regular-season Big South title with a 12-2 record in 2011. Liberty also won 20 matches for the fifth season in a row, going 20-13, and downed Radford in the Big South Championship title match to win the program's sixth conference crown.

Thomas, the 2011 Big South Tournament MVP, was voted Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the Big South in blocks last season. She is one of six returning starters from 2011 that Pinder will look to for leadership this year.

The Lady Flames will be in action during the annual Blue-White Scrimmage, which takes place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Vines Center. They open the regular-season in Durham, N.C., competing in an invitational at North Carolina Central on Aug. 24 and 25.
