Flames Return to Practice Field on Monday
Following their first day off since opening training camp on Aug. 2, Liberty returned to the practice field Monday morning to begin their third week of preparation for the 2012 season.
The Flames hit the turf for practice No. 11 of their preseason workouts at roughly 9:15 a.m. and practiced for two-plus hours.
Following the practice session, FSN reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill. During the interview, York got insight from the first-year head coach on how his team is preparing for their season-opener against Wake Forest on Sept. 1.
The Flames will hold three more morning workouts and two evening practice sessions this week before Liberty University classes begin next Monday.
While the morning workout sessions remain closed to the general public, this week will present fans their first look at the Flames this season.
The Flames will practice on Thursday evening from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m., as part of the Chancellor's Kickoff. During the two-hour evening event, Liberty's football team will practice in front of the incoming freshmen class after they are welcomed by Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., to Liberty Mountain. Liberty Athletics will also use the event to educate the incoming freshmen on Flames Football game day traditions.
The Flames will open the gates of Williams Stadium to the general public on Saturday evening for their inaugural Flames Fan Fest. Following a one-hour scrimmage, which starts at 7 p.m., Liberty players and coaches will hold a meet-and-greet with the fans underneath the Williams Stadium concourse.
