Throughout the month of August, LibertyFlames.com and the Flames Sports Network will be previewing each position on Liberty's football roster, continuing today with a look at Liberty's running back core.

Along with today's written preview about the offensive line, FSN reporter Nick Pierce had a chance to talk with Flames' running backs coach Jamaal Fobbs about his players, one of the more experienced offensive units on Liberty's roster.

Running Backs

Unlike the quarterback position, Liberty returns all of its running backs that gained significant yardage during the 2011 season. The Flames rushing attack will be looking to fill the yards graduated quarterback Mike Brown gained on the ground when he decided not to pass downfield.

Brown finished 2011 ranked second on the team with 437 rushing yards and led the program with nine rushing touchdowns. During his four years at Liberty, Brown rushed for 1,875 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Following spring practice, Sirchauncey Holloway seemed to rise to the top of the depth chart heading into the summer. He ranked third on the team in rushing in 2011, recording 294 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games. For his career, the senior has amassed 1,103 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns in 30 games.

Aldreakis Allen will push Holloway for the starting role and the two could possibly share the starting role throughout the 2012 season.

Allen was Liberty's leading ground gainer last season. He returned to the program following a year away from collegiate action to carry the ball 120 times for 612 yards and eight touchdowns, which nearly matched the numbers he posted as a freshman in 2009 (530 yards, nine touchdowns).

The third man in the mix at running back will be Desmond Rice, who was named Big South Freshman of the Week three times, during his first season with the Flames. He finished the season with 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Turner Gill's ideal offensive game plan is 60 percent rush and 40 percent pass, which means this group could be key to Liberty's offensive success in the upcoming season.
