Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill held his first practice of the 2012 season on Thursday morning inside Williams Stadium, beginning the team's preparation for the coming campaign and its season-opening game against Wake Forest on Sept. 1.

Liberty's 95-man roster hit the turf at 9:15 a.m. and worked out to roughly Noon. In keeping with the NCAA's acclimation period policies, the team held its first of two practices without pads this morning. Liberty will work out in "shell" on Saturday and Sunday before holding its first practice in full pads on Monday morning.

Following today's workout, Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Gill about his practice and what he is hoping to accomplish during the first few days of August training camp.

Liberty will mostly stick to the same practice schedule for the next two and half weeks, starting practice at 9:15 a.m. and working out until Noon. Gill will deviate from this pattern just four times during the first 16 practices of August, with the first altered schedule coming this upcoming Sunday (2:45 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.).

Fans are reminded that Liberty's football practices are closed to the general public outside of the Flames Fan Fest on Aug. 18.
