Ravettine Wraps Up Year at Olympic Trials
Liberty redshirt sophomore Brye Ravettine tied for 72nd place out of 154 competitors in the women's 50-meter freestyle at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Sunday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.
Ravettine, the first current Liberty swimmer ever to compete in the Olympic Trials, touched the wall in 26.33, finishing in sixth place in the 11th out of 16 preliminary heats of the 50 free. The Mahwah, N.J., native entered the meet with a seed time of 25.99, which placed her 61st out of 164 swimmers invited to the meet in the event.
Jessica Hardy, the top seed in the 50 free, swam the fastest qualifying time, 24.55. Two-time Olympic medalist Christine Magnuson qualified second for tonight's semifinals, in 24.75. Kara Lynn Joyce and Madison Kennedy tied for third, while 12-time Olympic medalist Dara Torres qualified fifth.
This officially concludes Ravettine's sensational season, during which she earned All-America honors and was named CCSA Swimmer of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet.
