Brown Grabs the Eye of Those Around the NFL
Former Liberty football standout Mike Brown may not have grabbed the attention of most NFL teams before the draft in April, but the football program alum seems to have the watchful eye of one current team.
Shortly after going undrafted in April, Brown was given a mini camp weekend tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars, a franchise Liberty currently has multiple ties with.
In 2009, the Jaguars selected Rashad Jennings in the seventh round of the NFL Draft and the former Liberty running back and Walter Payton Award candidate has spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville franchise.
Additionally, Charlie Skalaski, Liberty's former recruiting coordinator and wide receiver coach, recently took an offensive staff position when he was hired by Jaguars' head coach Mike Mularkey.
Brown, who like Jennings was also a Walter Payton Award candidate, made the most of his weekend mini camp invitation, earning a free agent contract and an opportunity to remain with the team.
Since signing with the Jaguars, Brown has continued to impress the coaching staff, which has now led to those outside the franchise noticing this undrafted member of the squad.
Recently, NFL.com reporter Brian McIntyre published an article that featured Brown after Jacksonville Jaguars' wide receiver coach Jerry Sullivan compared Brown to Wes Welker, a wide receiver who has 1,000 or more receiving yards four out of the last five seasons with the New England Patriots.
Brown is one of two former Flames who are currently with NFL programs. Chris Summers, an All-America wide receiver and Brown's No. 1 target the last three seasons, is currently with the Chicago Bears after signing a free agent contract in April.
