Mychelle Cumings placed fourth out of 21 throwers in the women's shot put final, Sunday at the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Liberty freshman Mychelle Cumings notched her second top-eight finish in three days, Sunday afternoon at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex. Cumings threw the shot put 47-9.25, placing fourth in the event on the final day of the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Cumings, who had finished eighth in the women's discus final on Friday in Bloomington, reached 47-9.25 on her very first shot put attempt Sunday. Her longest throw since a school-record 51-2.75 effort in the ECAC final on May 13 held up for fourth place in the field of 21 throwers.

Cumings ended up just two spots away from qualifying for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships, which will be held next month in Barcelona, Spain. Iowa State freshman Christina Hillman (top throw of 52-10) and Cal signee Torie Owers (50-4.75) earned the event's two qualifying berths.

Jacy Christiansen closed out her freshman season Sunday afternoon by running in the women's 3K final. The New Hampshire native came in 15th with a 10:48.71 clocking.
