Despite having completed his collegiate playing career, Liberty's Robert Karlsson continues to collect honors.

Karlsson has been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA)/PING All-America third-team squad, giving the men's golf program its first-ever All-America honoree. Earlier this month, Karlsson was named to the GCAA/PING All-Region East team for the second year in a row.

Karlsson led the Flames to their second straight Big South title and helped Liberty complete the best postseason run in program history.

Late in the 2011-12 season, Liberty won three consecutive tournaments, including the title at the 2012 Big South Men's Golf Championship and a three-stroke victory over Florida at the NCAA Greensboro Regional.

The Flames then took their success to the national level and finished in 10th place at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship. Liberty fell one shot short of forcing a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in the match play round of the championship event.

Karlsson captured two individual titles during Liberty's successful late season run, including his second career medalist honor at the Big South Men's Golf Championship.

Karlsson led the Flames on the season with a 71.6 stroke average and posted 10 Top 10 finishes in 13 events this past year, including eight Top 5 finishes.

Karlsson finished the season ranked No. 28 in the country by Golfweek and No. 35 by Golfstat.

As a team, the Flames finished the 2011-12 campaign ranked No. 28 by Golfweek and No. 21 by Golfstat, the highest season-end rankings in program history.

Karlsson has now transitioned into his amateur playing career. He recently made the cut at the Nordea Masters, where he carded a hole-in-one during his final round.

His next career stop will be at The Amateur Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club, June 18-23, in Ayshire, Scotland, before Karlsson travels to Newcastle, Northern Ireland to participate on the European squad at the 2012 Palmer Cup, June 28-30.
