Liberty Swimming Recognized in Online Publication
Liberty swimming has been featured in this year's edition of "Profiles in Excellence: 2011-12 College Swimming & Diving Honors," which currently appears on CollegeSwimmingAwards.com.
Redshirt sophomore Brye Ravettine was listed as a "Breakout Athlete," for earning All-America mention with her 13th-place finish in the 50 free at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Ravettine, Liberty's first swimming All-American, also collected CCSA Swimmer of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet awards this season.
Student-athletes from California, North Carolina, Louisville and Georgia, among others, were spotlighted as "Breakout Athletes."
The Mahwah, N.J., native will compete in the 50-meter freestyle during the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which will take place in Omaha, Neb., from June 25 through July 2.
Liberty's team appeared in the magazine again, as its season-opening come-from-behind win at Marshall on Oct. 22 was voted as an "Exciting Dual Meet." That performance appears alongside PAC-12 meets (No. 6 Stanford vs. No. 5 Arizona and No. 8 Stanford vs. No. 1 California) and the winning meet, Tennessee vs. Florida.
The Lady Flames showed a flair for the dramatic this season, clinching three meets during the final relay. Liberty downed North Dakota, 121-115, on Jan. 7 in a meet that was decided in the final swim. The team posted an unbeaten record at the Davidson Duals on Jan. 28, a result that was sealed with victory in the closing relay.
The publication received contributions from several professional aquatics writers, including Casey Barnett (capandgoggles.com), Damion Dennis (West Virginia) and Mike Litzinger. Open nominations were taken through April 30, with fans being able to vote online. Over 200 athletes and/or team from approximately 100 institutions were nominated this year.
A print version of "Profiles in Excellence" will be available upon request, starting in late June.
