Christina Mitchell will be the first Liberty athlete to compete at the ECAC Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend in Princeton, N.J., beginning defense of her heptathlon title Friday at noon.

After breaking her own school record in the women's javelin, Liberty redshirt junior Christina Mitchell is this week's Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Mitchell won the women's javelin by 20 feet at Sunday's Winthrop Twilight with a throw of 146-1. That improved upon her previous record of 144-7, which was set at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 19.

With that throw, Mitchell now ranks No. 37 on the women's javelin performance list for the East Region, giving her a good chance at qualifying for the NCAA Division I Preliminary Round meet, to be held May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Before that, Mitchell will compete in the heptathlon and javelin at this weekend's ECAC Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Princeton, N.J. Mitchell will begin defense of her ECAC heptathlon title Friday at noon at Weaver Track & Field Stadium.

More than 40 Liberty athletes are slated to participate in the IC4A and ECAC Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will continue through Sunday.
