Melinda Bendik earned the Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor for the second time this season.

After breaking the Liberty women's hammer school record for the third time this season, redshirt senior Melinda Bendik has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

This is Bendik's second Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor this year, following her recognition on March 14.

Bendik entered the Highlander Invitational with a school record mark of 194-5 in the women's hammer. Two of her throws during Saturday's competition eclipsed that mark, including her sixth and final attempt. That effort reached 197-10, winning the event by nearly 30 feet.

Bendik now ranks No. 7 in the East Region and No. 20 on the NCAA Division I national performance list for the women's hammer in 2012.

Bendik is entered in the women's hammer and discus at Sunday's Duke Twilight, which will begin at 2 p.m. in Durham, N.C. Some of her teammates will also compete at the Winthrop Twilight on Sunday. That meet will start at 2 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
