Volleyball Closes Spring Season With Win at Virginia

Loren Thomas led Liberty with a .375 hitting percentage and six block assists at Virginia this past weekend.

The Liberty volleyball team closed out its 2012 spring schedule by competing in a tournament at Virginia this past weekend. While in Charlottesville, the Lady Flames defeated the host Cavaliers and dropped a close match to VCU.

On Saturday, the Lady Flames competed in one three-set match against VCU, followed by a three-set contest versus Virginia.

Caroline Douglas led the Lady Flames with 18 kills on the day, while Loren Thomas registered 15 kills at a .375 pace. Thomas also added six block assists. Gabrielle Shipe collected a team-high 39 digs, an average of 6.5 per set. Becca Haraf totaled 20 digs and three aces.

Liberty vs. VCU
The Lady Flames opened the day by falling to VCU, 2-1. The Rams claimed sets one and three by close margins, while Liberty prevailed in set two.

Douglas sent down 10 kills, while Thomas added seven kills and four block assists. Shipe recorded 22 digs, and Haraf added nine.

Liberty vs. Virginia
Liberty claimed a 2-1 victory over the host Cavaliers, winning the first set and closing out the match with a close victory in set three.

Douglas and Thomas shared the team lead with eight kills apiece. Shipe led the way with 17 digs, followed by Haraf's 11. Haraf served up three aces for the Lady Flames.
