Spring Football Practice Report: Practice No. 13
The Flames held their final workout session before their spring game, Thursday afternoon, lightly running through a series of plays to better prepare the team for the annual event.
Following the practice, which was run like a pregame walk through, Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Liberty's defensive line coach Vantz Singletary and junior defensive lineman Cory Freeman.
Singletary takes over a group that returns 2011 starters in Freeman, Paco Varol, Francis Bah and Greg Schuster and will be looking to replace the loss of three-year starter Asa Chapman. Chapman led the group last year in tackles, finishing the season with 35 stops (21 solo, 14 assisted).
Freeman started six out of 11 games in 2011 and posted a career-high 29 stops (13 solo, 16 assisted). Freeman and Bah, Liberty's top two players in terms of quarterback hurries (five and eight, respectively), will be able to put their pass rushing skills to better use in 2012 with head coach Turner Gill's switch to a "4-3" defensive scheme.
