Mychelle Cumings has been named Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week three times during her freshman year.

After breaking her own school record in the women's discus, Liberty freshman Mychelle Cumings has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

The award is Cumings' first of the outdoor season, after the native of Madison, Tenn., was a two-time Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week during the indoor campaign.

Cumings' school-record discus throw of 167-0 landed well past her previous mark of 158-8 and placed her second in the competition. Cumings was one of two women's discus throwers who eclipsed the existing Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex record of 159-5.

Cumings also won the women's shot put competition by nearly three feet, thanks to a 47-11.25 toss. She placed ninth in the women's hammer, stretching the measuring tape to a personal-best 156-10.

Cumings currently ranks No. 34 nationally and No. 6 among freshmen in the women's discus. She also tops the Big South performance list in both the discus and shot put (49-0.75).

Liberty will take this weekend off from competition, in preparation for the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet will be contested April 19-21 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
