Mychelle Cumings, shown above throwing the hammer, extended the Liberty women's discus record to 167-0 at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The freshman currently ranks No. 34 nationally in the women's discus.

After posting a number of impressive performances at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, the Liberty men's and women's outdoor track & field teams are each ranked No. 10 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Regional Index.

The Liberty men's team is again the only Big South team ranked in the Southeast Region this week. On the women's side, the Lady Flames moved up two spots from last week's No. 12 regional ranking. Liberty remains ahead of the Coastal Carolina women's squad, which is listed No. 12.

A pair of program records highlighted the Flames' efforts at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. The quartet of Meme Layne, Abigail Flower, Olivia Charnuski and Alyssa Pegues clocked a time of 45.90 in the women's 4 x 100 relay, breaking the school and facility record of 45.95 which had been set in 2007. Meanwhile, Mychelle Cumings boosted her own Liberty women's discus record to 167-0.

Additionally, Liberty won 20 events and notched five new IC4A/ECAC qualifications. Kyle Gill (100), Kevin Reddington (Long Jump), Leonard Robbins (400) and Roderick Spruel (100) were the Flames' new IC4A qualifiers, while Jocelyn Williams met the ECAC standard in the women's discus.

Liberty will take this weekend off from competition, in preparation for the 2012 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet will be held April 19-21 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
