Tuus earns his second Player of the Week selection, while Azuero is named Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career.

Junior Siim Tuus and freshman Jorge Azuero are the latest Liberty men's tennis student-athletes to be honored with the Big South Conference's weekly awards. Tuus has been named Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Azuero's selection as Freshman of the Week is the first of his career. The conference announced the weekly awards this afternoon, as the Flames swept the honors for the third time this season.  The awards cover matches played April 1-8.

Tuus and Azuero receive the recognition after helping Liberty post a 2-0 record last week, to improve to 15-6 overall. The team's 7-0 win over UNC Asheville leveled its conference mark at 3-3.

Tuus posted a 3-1 mark last week, playing the No. 1 position for both singles and doubles.  Tuus' first victory of the week came against Longwood's Nobu Tanaka, as the junior won easily, 6-2, 6-4, helping Liberty to the 5-2 nonconference win.

Against UNC Asheville, the Rakvere, Estonia native posted a pair of victories. In doubles, Tuus and partner Giancarlo Lemmi handed Matt Waissen and Jonas Brobeck their first conference loss of the season, winning by an 8-4 margin. Tuus then claimed the lead singles contest, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) over Adrien Langeard, notching his fourth conference win of the season.

Meanwhile, Azuero recorded an unbeaten 3-0 mark for the week. Against Longwood, the freshman defeated Harry Kelleher, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the No. 5 slot. The Cali, Colombia native then went 2-0 against UNC Asheville, including an important doubles win. Paired with Mandeep Yadav, the duo fought back from a 5-2 deficit to the Bulldogs' John Schubel and Pete Conaty. Winning six of the next seven games, Yadav and Azuero won, 8-6, to help the Flames capture the doubles point and carry momentum into singles play. In his No. 6 singles match, Azuero picked up a quick victory, 6-2, 6-0, over Schubel, staying unbeaten at 9-0 this season and 4-0 in conference play.

Each of the Flames' three freshmen have now claimed the conference's freshman of the week accolade at least once this season. Combined, the trio holds a 30-11 record in singles and a 17-10 mark in doubles play.

The weekly conference awards are the Flames' seventh and eighth of the season. Lemmi and Wayne Harrell swept the awards for the week of Feb. 6-13, while Harrell added his second freshman of the week honor for the week of Feb. 27-March 4. Tuus and Dillon Segur then swept the awards for the week of March 12-18, before Segur was named freshman of the week again, for March 26-April 1.

The Flames conclude their 2012 slate on Thursday, hosting the conference's lone unbeaten team, Radford (6-0), at 2 p.m.
