Liberty Finishes No. 20 in Mid-Major Top 25

After making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, the Liberty women's basketball team wraps up the 2011-12 season ranked No. 20 in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.

Liberty, the only Big South Conference team listed in the year's final Top 25, reached as high as the No. 18 position this season, on Nov. 15.

Delaware (31-2) finished No. 1 in the final poll, earning 16 of 31 first-place votes. No. 2 Green Bay and No. 3 Gonzaga also earned first-place votes.

The Women's Mid-Major Top 25, in its second year of existence, is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conferences.

Liberty closed the 2011-12 season at 24-9 overall, posting its 14th 20-win season in the last 16 years. The Lady Flames went 16-2 in Big South play, setting a new conference record for most league wins in a single season.

Head coach Carey Green's Lady Flames captured the program's 13th Big South regular-season championship and won their 14th Big South Championship title. Liberty was then eliminated by national runner-up Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, ending the Lady Flames' successful season.
