Spring Football Practice Report - Practice No. 4
For the third time in four days, Liberty returned to the Williams Stadium turf for another spring football practice session. The Thursday afternoon workout was Liberty's fourth of the spring season.
Following the two-plus hour session, Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Dennis Wagner and senior linebacker Aaron Lundy.
Wagner is entering his first year with the program where he will serve as offensive coordinator, with specific focus on Liberty's offensive line.
Wagner will be charged with overseeing Liberty's highly successful offense, a unit that has ranked among the best FCS programs in the country in recent years.
Liberty's offense has ranked inside the Top 20 the last five seasons in terms of scoring offense, including the 2009 season when the Flames led the country by scoring 36.36 points per game. The Flames also had the No. 3 ranked offense in the country in 2007 and 2010, with Liberty setting a program record by averaging 42.73 points in 2007.
Liberty's offensive line returns four starters from the 2011 season in Stan Herring (LT), Malcolm Boyd (LG), Jay Weatherington (C) and Lundy (RG). The lone starter head coach Turner Gill will have to replace is Toney White, who started all 11 games last year at right tackle.
Liberty will hold its first scrimmage oriented practice on Saturday evening under the lights at Williams Stadium. The full practice will remain closed to the public, but LibertyFlames.com will provide a post-practice follow-up interview with Gill.
