Tristan Stayt earned both a doubles and singles win against Morgan State, Monday.

Fueled by a continued strong doubles effort, the Liberty men's tennis team took a 1-0 lead into singles and never looked back, downing Morgan State, 6-1, Monday at the Hershey Tennis Courts.

The Flames improve to 12-5 for 2012, while Morgan State falls to 3-6.

Liberty began by taking the doubles point for the 10th time in its last 11 matches, jumping out to a 1-0 lead.  Siim Tuus and Giancarlo Lemmi earned a quick win at No. 1, taking down Duwane Thomas and Eric Ward, 8-3, for their ninth doubles win of the year.  Shea Thomas and Tristan Stayt wrapped up the No. 2 match with an 8-5 victory over Djorde Ljubinkovic and Duk Young-Park.  Mandeep Yadav and Dillon Segur completed the doubles sweep against Aaron Benjamin and Jannick Tash, 9-8 (1).

The Flames secured the team victory quickly, taking each of the first four matches to finish.

Wayne Harrell rolled through his No. 5 match, defeating Ljubinkovic, 6-0, 6-4.  Despite falling behind slightly in the second set, the freshman rallied to close out his 10th singles victory of the season.

Matt Slamecka only gave up three games on the afternoon, as he downed Benjamin, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.  The sophomore is 4-0 this season in singles play.

Yadav then claimed his fourth straight singles win, defeating Tash in the No. 3 position, serving as the clinching victory to put the Flames up, 4-0.

Stayt outhit Thomas in the No. 4 contest, winning 6-1, 6-3, for his seventh singles win on the year.

The Bears claimed their sole point in a three-set match at No. 1, with the final set being decided on a ten-point breaker.  Young-Park squeeked out a victory over the Flames' Thomas, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Segur then tacked on the final team point for Liberty, also going to a ten-point breaker in the third set of the No. 2 match.  The freshman claimed the first set, 6-3, but the match was squared by Ward taking the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7).  Segur had to rally in the final frame, but pulled out the 10-8 victory.

The Flames return to action on Wednesday, when they host Norfolk State.  First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.  Live updates will be available for the match.
