Freshman Dillon Segur posted a 2-0 record, Tuesday, in the Flames' 5-2 win over NJIT.

The Liberty men's tennis team had a successful start to its spring break matches, as the Flames downed New Jersey Institute of Technology, 5-2, Tuesday morning.

Liberty improves to 8-3 with their fifth consecutive victory, giving the program a five-match win streak each of the last three years.  The win also improves Liberty's neutral-site record to 5-0 for 2012.  The Highlanders suffer their second setback in Florida after a loss to Valparaiso yesterday, to drop to 9-4 this season.

The Flames began the morning with a sweep in the doubles matches to gain a 1-0 lead.  The No. 1 and No. 2 matches were very competitive, with Liberty taking 8-6 wins in each slot.  Tristan Stayt and Shea Thomas claimed the lead match over Victor Martinez and Ike Kiro, and Matt Slamecka and Mandeep Yadav took down Bryan Keelan and Joao Tasca.  An 8-4 win from freshmen Jorge Azuero and Dillon Segur over Fraser Croad and Dan Solomon in the No. 3 match completed the doubles sweep.

In singles action, the Flames took three matches in straight sets en route to the victory, while also taking one of the three matches that went to a deciding third set.

Thomas claimed his sixth match of the season, defeating Martinez, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 slot.  Stayt and Harrell both claimed 6-2, 6-3 victories in the No. 4 and No. 6 matches, respectively.  Harrell's singles win is his eighth of 2012, which leads the team.

Freshman Dillon Segur notched a three-set win in the No. 5 match.  Segur blanked Tasca, 6-0, to open the contest, but the Highlander answered back by taking the second set, 6-4.  However, the Winston-Salem, N.C., native broke away in the third set to win, 6-3.

The Higlanders claimed tough three-set wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 sets to claim their two points for the match.

Liberty's final match in Florida is slated for tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., against Chicago State.
