Lady Flames Blank Coker
The Liberty women's tennis team swept Coker, 9-0, Saturday, as they halted their six-game slide at the Coker Tennis Courts.
Liberty moves to 2-9, while Coker is now 5-4.
Liberty quickly posted three doubles victories to take a commanding 3-0 lead, as all matches were being scored for the contest. The Lady Flames only gave up a combined three games between the three doubles matches.
Head Coach Chris Johnson's No. 1 duo of Cameron Richard and Brittany Yang defeated Alyssa Blanchard and Stephanie Medley, 6-2, while the No. 2 pair of Alexandra Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins took down Cora Berna and Kayla Meermans, 8-1. The No. 3 team of Carol Lobel and Jessie Boda blanked Faith Baxley and Brittanny Yando, 8-0.
In singles, the Lady Flames continued their momentum, taking each of the six doubles matches in straight sets.
Sheeran's competitor opened strong in the No. 1 match, but the sophomore claimed the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), before closing the door on the match, 6-2 in the second set.
Richard claimed the No. 2 contest, 6-2, 6-2, over Berna, and Yang came out the victor in the No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-1.
Liberty dominated the final three slots in the lineup, only giving up a combined two games to the Cobras.
Jenkins and Lobel each won their No. 4 and No. 5 matches by 6-0, 6-1 decisions. Boda's sweep in the No. 6 match completed the sweep of Coker, as she won 6-0, 6-0.
Liberty will play its first spring break match in Florida, tomorrow, as they face Long Island at 5 p.m.
