For the third consecutive week he has been eligible, Liberty's Robert Karlsson has been given the Big South's top weekly honor, with the senior being selected this week's Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.

His results in Liberty's last three events have made him the Big South's top performer. Karlsson has now been named Big South Men's Golfer of the Week three times this year and 10 times during his four seasons with the Flames.

Karlsson was first named Big South Men's Golfer of the Week on Oct. 27, following a 13-under par 203 at the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate Golf Tournament. He also received Big South weekly honors on Feb. 2 after a three-over par 219 at the SeaBest Seafood Invitational.

In a star-studded field, Karlsson finished tied for ninth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday. He carded a five-over par 215 (69-72-74) on the par-72, 6,704-yard Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

The tournament field included 10 programs currently ranked inside the latest Golfweek Top 50 rankings. Individually, the 75-man field included 10 Top 50 golfers and 19 golfers currently ranked inside the latest Top 100 listing.

Karlsson's play during the two-day, 54-hole event enabled No. 30/35 Liberty (Golfweek/Golfstat) to finish in sixth place. The sixth-place finish positioned the Flames ahead of No. 29/29 UAB and No. 19/21 UCF in the final team standings.

Karlsson's strong play during the event was catapulted by his opening round, a one-under par 69. This accounted for the fourth time this season and the 24th time in his four-year collegiate career the Swedish-born golfer has broken 70 in a round of golf.

Karlsson has now finished five out of six team events this season inside the Top 10 final standings. Karlsson has 26 career Top 10 finishes in 39 collegiate tournaments (66.7 percent).

Karlsson is currently ranked No. 26 in the country by Golfweek and No. 40 in the latest national Golfstat collegiate rankings.

Karlsson and the Flames return to the golf links on Feb. 26-27, when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., to participate in the Seahawk Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event is hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall.
