Sanders Named Big South Player of the Week

Jesse Sanders has been named Big South Player of the week for games played Feb. 6-12.

Liberty men's basketball guard Jesse Sanders has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 6-12. The announcement was made by the conference office this afternoon.

The accolade marks Sanders second player of the week honor in his career and the first for the Flames this season. Sanders was previously named the Big South Co-Player of the week, last season (Jan. 3, 2011).

Sanders averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 assists and shot 69.6 percent from the field (16-of-23) in two Big South road wins last week.  He opened the week with 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds in the Flames' buzzer-beating win at Charleston Southern last Thursday.  On Saturday at Presbyterian College, Sanders had a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists, in addition to six rebounds and going 8-of-11 from the floor.

Sanders leads the Flames this season in points (12.6), rebounds (7.7) and assists (8.1). The Sugar Land, Texas native sits atop the Big South and Liberty record books as the all-time leader in assists with 691 and is No. 3 in the nation in dimes, this season. Sanders is the only player in conference and school history to have over 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 600 assists. In addition to being Liberty's career assist leader, he is currently 16th in scoring (1,176) and fifth all-time in rebounds (774).

The Flames return to action Tuesday night, playing host to VMI. The contest tips off at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center, airing live exclusively on ESPN3.com.
