This is Sheeran's first BSC Player of the Week honor.

Liberty women's tennis player Alexandra Sheeran has been named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference today.  The sophomore earns the recognition from her performance in matches during the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Despite the Lady Flames having just one match during the week, Sheeran made the most of it, posting a 2-0 record against Richmond.

In doubles, Sheeran paired with fellow sophomore Rebekah Jenkins to defeat the Spiders' Melissa Kandinata and Joanna Matuszczyk, 8-5, in the No. 2 match.

Moving on to singles, the Savannah, Ga., native was placed in the leadoff match by head coach Chris Johnson for the first time in her career.  Sheeran came through for the Lady Flames, knocking off.  Richmond's experienced senior Helen Cunningham, 6-3, 6-3, for her first career victory in the No. 1 singles position.

While Sheeran was named the Big South Freshman of the Week once last season (April 4-10), this is the first time she has been  honored as Player of the Week.

The Lady Flames continue spring dual play on Thursday, when they travel to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood in a 1:30 p.m. match.
