Lady Flames Earn 143-119 Win at Duquesne

Liberty claimed first place in both relays during the team's dual-meet victory at Duquesne on Saturday.

Competing against Duquesne of the Atlantic 10 for the first time, Liberty's women's swimming team earned a 143-119 win over the host Dukes, Saturday at Towers Pool.

The Lady Flames improve to 5-2 in dual-meet action, while Duquesne is now 4-6 on the season.

Liberty recorded victories in both relays, and the visitors claimed seven individual-event wins. Duquesne earned victory in five individual events on Saturday, including 1-2-3 finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Liberty's 400 medley relay team earned first place in a season-best time of 4:00.01 to open the meet. A quartet of Lady Flames, Brye Ravettine, Meghan Babcock, Chloe Thomas and Cori Gary, closed out the meet by posting a pool-record 1:37.77 to win the 200 free relay.

Freshman Emily Duff claimed victory in both the 500 free (5:11.80) and 1000 free (10:42.03) on Saturday.

Fellow classmates Gary and Babcock tied for first place in the 50 free in a time of 24.78. Gary then swam a 54.11 to win the 100 freestyle.

Liberty posted a 1-2 showing in the 200 back, with Erin Curry swimming 2:08.14 and Margaret Riel finishing second in 2:10.75.

Ravettine won the 100 backstroke by swimming 59.70, and Curry clocked a lifetime-best 1:00.54 for third place.

Bethany Wakeley earned first place in the 100 fly with a 59.25, while Ravettine followed in third place, at 1:00.14.

Margaret Riel earned second place in the 200 free (1:57.84), and took third in the 500 free (5:20.97). Sarah McCorkle finished third in both the 100 free (54.87) and 200 free (1:59.27).

The Lady Flames went 2-3-4 in the final individual heat, the 400 individual medley. Curry took second in 4:36.24, followed by Duff (4:40.23) and Wakeley (4:45.24).

After a week off from head-to-head meets, Liberty will next compete at Gardner-Webb, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. before contesting the Davidson Duals, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
