Today's Game
Liberty (6-6, 1-0 Big South) will face a strong test in its Big South Conference home opener Saturday at 7 p.m., as fellow conference unbeaten High Point (7-6, 2-0 Big South) visits the Vines Center. The Lady Flames and Panthers were the top two teams in the Big South preseason poll.

The "Starting Five" - Today's Top Storylines
1) Saturday's game will be a marquee early-season matchup within the Big South Conference. Liberty was tabbed the preseason conference favorite, with High Point coming in second in the voting. Both teams are off to strong starts in Big South play. The Lady Flames posted a 76-68 win at Radford in their conference opener, while the Panthers have won their two Big South tilts by an average of 31.0 ppg.

2) Liberty will attempt to win its Big South home opener for the 11th time in the last 12 years. The Lady Flames had won 10 straight conference home lid-lifters before Radford posted a 62-53 win at the Vines Center in Liberty's initial home conference game a year ago.

3) The Lady Flames have defeated the Panthers the last four times High Point has visited the Vines Center, but last season's matchup on Feb. 5, 2011 went down to the wire. Liberty escaped with a 58-57 victory as Devon Brown rejected Erin Reynolds' attempted layup in the waning seconds.

4) Liberty redshirt senior Avery Warley can make some history on Saturday. She enters the contest with 1,031 rebounds, meaning that three more boards will enable her to break Katie Feenstra's program record of 1,033 career rebounds. Warley averaged 14.0 rpg in three meetings with the Panthers last year.

5) Warley will have plenty of competition for rebounds in the form of High Point's 6-4 sophomore center, Cheyenne Parker. Warley is ranked No. 9 nationally with 10.8 rpg, while Parker sits No. 12 in the nation with 10.6 rpg.

Staying Close to Home
Saturday's game will be Liberty's seventh straight contest played in Virginia.

A Look Back at Liberty's Win at Radford on Dec. 31
-- Liberty's 76-68 victory at Radford on Dec. 31 was the Lady Flames' 11th win in their last 12 Big South openers.

-- The Lady Flames' fifth straight win inside the Dedmon Center was their first road victory since the Nov. 11 season opener at UNC Greensboro.

-- The contest marked the first time Liberty has won a game decided by 10 or fewer points this season.

-- Liberty shot a season-high 60.5 percent (26-of-43) from the field, improving to 2-0 this season and 80-1 under head coach Carey Green when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor.

-- The Lady Flames extended a couple lengthy streaks, outrebounding their 39th straight opponent (41-23) and keeping their 34th consecutive opponent from shooting 50 percent from the field (Radford finished at .414).

-- Liberty won despite tying a program Division I record with 39 turnovers committed.

-- Four Lady Flames scored in double figures, marking the fifth time Liberty has accomplished the feat during its six wins this season.

-- Devon Brown led Liberty's attack with 19 points, moving past Brenda Gunsallus and into 12th place in program history with 1,080 career points.

-- Avery Warley's 14 points allowed her to leapfrog Ginny Holloway for sixth place in Liberty history with 1,193 career markers.

-- Warley also corralled 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and the 36th of her career. As a result, she moved into second place on Liberty's career rebounding chart with 1,031 caroms. Warley needs just three more boards to break Katie Feenstra's program record of 1,033 rebounds.

Tough Time in Tight Tilts
-- Liberty's 76-68 win at Radford on Dec. 31 was the Lady Flames' first victory this season in a game decided by 10 or fewer points. Liberty is now 1-3 in such contests.

-- Last season, the Lady Flames were 8-8 in games decided by 10 or fewer points. One of those wins was a 58-57 victory over High Point at the Vines Center on Feb. 5, 2011. The Panthers had a chance to win the game, but Devon Brown blocked Erin Reynolds' layup attempt in the closing seconds.

Finding Their Touch From the Foul Line
-- Liberty only ranks eighth in the Big South in free throw percentage at .630 for the season. However, the Lady Flames have shot well from the foul line in the second half of their last two games (at Radford and Richmond), making 28 of their 38 attempts for a .737 clip.

-- Leading the charge is Avery Warley, who is 11-for-11 on free throws in the second half of the last two games.

Early Tests
-- Liberty, which was picked first in the Big South preseason poll for the 14th time in the last 15 years, will face off with two of its top projected contenders right off the bat in conference play.

-- The Lady Flames opened their Big South slate at Radford (No. 3 in the preseason poll) on Dec. 31 and are now returning home to face No. 2 selection High Point on Saturday.

The Container is Half Full
The Lady Flames are 2-0 this season and are now 80-1 under head coach Carey Green when making at least 50 percent of their field goals.

The Container is Half Empty
-- None of Liberty's 12 opponents so far this season have shot 50 percent from the field. No. 12/14 Oklahoma came the closest, shooting 45.6 percent (26-of-57) against the Lady Flames on Nov. 25.

-- The Lady Flames have now kept 34 straight opponents from making 50 percent of their field goals. The last opposing team to do so was No. 17/17 St. John's, which posted a 52.9 (27-of-51) field goal percentage versus Liberty on Dec. 28, 2010.

-- Since the start of the 2007-08 season, only four teams have shot 50 percent against Liberty in 143 games.
