Flames Down Camels And Fall To WolfPack In Tri-Match At N.C. State
Liberty opened the evening with a 36-9 win over Campbell that included pins by four different wrestlers, but the Flames fell to homestanding N.C. State, 32-6, in a tri-match held at Reynolds Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

With the split on the night, the Flames' overall record improves to 3-2 in their comeback tour as Liberty is wrestling again for the first time since 1994.

At 125 pounds, Sean Katz opened up the match with Campbell with a pin over Richie Apolinar at 4:21, followed by a 4-0 decision by Liberty's Zachary McCray over Caleb Lesnoff at 133 pounds to give the Flames a 9-0 lead.

The Camels got on the scoreboard at 141 pounds as Kelin Bidelspach got a 19-12 decision over Dustin Hicks for three points. However, Liberty controlled the rest of the match with three decisions and three pins to pick up the victory.

Aaron Kelley got a 6-2 decision at 149 pounds and Shaun Smith followed with a 4-3 narrow decision at 157 pounds. Chad Porter gave the Flames their second pin of the match at 165 pounds as he stuck Brent Poynter to the mats at 4:03, giving Liberty a sizeable 21-3 lead.

Campbell's Dillon Landi attempted to get the Camels back into the match with a quick six points as he pinned Liberty's Joseph Son just 55 seconds into the 174 pound match. But Liberty took the remaining three weight classes as Jonathan Campbell got an 11-6 decision at 184 pounds and Rory Bosek (197 pounds) and Patrick Walker (HWT) ended their matches quickly with back-to-back pins at 3:42 and 3:17, respectively, to seal the victory for the Flames.

In the final match of the evening, the Wolfpack claimed victories in nine of the 10 weight classes, including seven decision, two major decisions and a pin. Liberty's six points in the match-up with N.C. State came in a forfeit victory at 184 pounds.

Taylor Cummings began the match with a 9-5 decision over Katz at 125 pounds, followed by a major decision, 13-3, for his older brother as the senior used three takedowns in the third to defeat McCray at 133 pounds, giving the Wolfpack a 7-0 advantage.

Darrion Caldwell got a first period pin (1:35) over the Flames' Ryan McDonnell at 141 pounds and Joe Caramanica used a second period reversal and an early third period takedown to overcome an early deficit for an 11-7 win over Tim Harner at 149 pounds.

Kody Hamrah kept things rolling for the Wolfpack with a 7-0 decision over Smith at 157 pounds. N.C. State's Obie Simpson and the Flames' Porter followed with the closest bout of the match as Porter used a late takedown in the third to pull within one, but wasn't able to get any closer as Simpson picked up the 6-5 win at 165 pounds.

Cameron Reeves added an 11-5 decision over Son at 174 pounds and Mark Jahad picked up a major decision over the Flames' Bosek, 16-2, at 197 pounds. Campbell recorded the lone points for the Flames at 184 pounds with a forfeit victory.

In the final match of the evening, the Wolfpack's Jainor Palma handed the Flames' heavyweight Walker his first loss in five matches this season as Palma sealed the home team's victory with a 9-5 decision.

The Flames return to the mats this weekend when they travel to Charlottesville, Va., for a quad match at Virginia, along with American and George Mason. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
