For the third time in as many games, the Liberty Lady Flames went to overtime as they tied the Elon Phoenix, 1-1 in double overtime, Sunday afternoon, at the Summitt Hospitality Invite, at the SAS Soccer Complex.

Despite the Lady Flames carrying play in the first half of play, the two teams went to intermission knotted at 0-0.

After regrouping at half, Kendall Bartholomew (So., F, Thaxton, Va.) gave the Lady Flames a 1-0 advantage at the 46:49 mark.   Bartholomew scored her first goal of the season by heading in a pass off the left from Hannah Sullivan (So., F, Minden, Nev.) to put Liberty on top.

Elon answered back, knotting the score less than seven minutes later.  Off a corner kick by midfielder Tina Longo, Kerri Spears netted her first goal of the season tying the contest at 1-1.

For the game, the Lady Flames out shot Elon 12-9, while the Phoenix held the edge on corners, 3-2.

Liberty goalkeeper Sonia Rodriguez (Sr., Fairfax, Va.) made five saves on the afternoon, while Elon's Liz Johnson also had five.

With the tie, the Lady Flames move to 1-1-2 on the young season, while Elon is 0-1-2.  It is the third-straight match in which Liberty has played beyond regulation.  Before the string of overtimes, the Lady Flames never have had three-straight games go extra minutes in the program's history.

Liberty next will play its first home game of the season on Saturday, September 10 by hosting the Monarchs of Old Dominion.  It will be the first meeting between the two Commonwealth of Virginia schools.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
