Liberty's Phillip Aseweh has been selected to the 2011 Capital One Men's Soccer Academic All-America University Division team for his excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field. The midfielder has been selected to the second team.

Aseweh becomes the second men's soccer player in program history to be named to the prestigious national team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior midfielder joins former defender Mike Gelatt, who became the first Liberty student-athlete to be selected to two CoSIDA Academic All-America first teams, being selected to the men's soccer squads in 2007 and 2008.

Aseweh becomes the 17th Liberty student-athlete to be honored by CoSIDA as an Academic All-America team. A native of Navrongo, Ghana, the midfielder was a key component of the 2011 Big South Champion Flames, who finished the year with an 11-6-3 record. Aseweh was named to his second Big South all-conference first team for the second consecutive year at season's end.

The midfielder started all 20 games for the Flames this season, compiling a team-leading 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. He finished the year tied for the lead in assists and fourth in points in the Big South.  In addition, the senior ranked 18th in the nation in assists.

During the season, Aseweh was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week and Big South Attacking Player of the Week for Sept. 21.  He also earned selection to the SoccerAmerica Team of the Week for the same week. During the prior seven days, the midfielder scored three goals and recorded an assist, as Liberty defeated No. 10 Virginia, 2-0, and Howard, 4-0.

Off the field, Aseweh has excelled in the classroom, currently maintaining a 3.71 GPA in accounting. He had been named to the Capital One District III men's soccer first team and the Big South all-academic team each of the past two years.  He has been a Dean's List member every semester of his academic career at Liberty and has earned mention on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll each of his prior two academic years. Aseweh was named to the Virginia Tech Athletic Director's Honor Roll in 2008.
